Week 2 Class Thoughts…

I was intrigued by the articles of how we list, file and sort information. It strikes me that there is a challenge of the time needed to retrain our liner and hierarchically thought, that different populations interact with this new information sorting creating again a new “class” of thinkers, which continues to keep the separation of privilege.
This was reflected in our CRL readings on how society is ”defined” by the left-brain and being redefined by the right.

During the “ Everything is Miscellaneous” article I was struck by the similarity to information overload in sorting for storage just as sorting for concern, how people process information on climate change, social justice, etc…

I am currently stuck with efficiently adding Google Reader subscriptions with FireFox- the RSS fields push me to use bookmarks and do not offer Google Reader. Have not been able to locate the work around, but know it is out there.

I am interested in covering Green-washing, specifically matrix for advertising and third party oversight.

The issue isn't just the left brain thinking, it also is we have to give up some control. It is impossible to read it all, to know it all. So we have to find better methods to find what will be best for us, and spend more effort on avoiding those things that we should not read. It is the latter that is hard to do.

    Re:bookmarks and Google Reader.

I'm not sure the problem with the Google Reader Subscribe bookmark. There are some blogs that it doesn't work with, but those I usually can just copy the rss link and paste it into the subscribe button in Google Reader. Tell me more? Are you mac or pc?

    I'll keep an eye out.

  2. Great thoughts Christopher. To answer in reverse order.
I am a mac user and have no problem copying the page link and pasting it in. Just thought that when I click the rss button instead of Firefox taking me to its bookmark menu that I would have an option to add it to Google Reader, at least there should be a plug-in for it.

    Re: releasing control vs retraining
My perception is from years of public education where classes are compartmentalized, linear, slow, and required. I agree that giving up that control is challenging, it creates a first a sense of being powerless. Yet once embraced and understood, it can be quite liberating and empowering.
It is fascinating to me what a wonderful metaphor this has been for transforming individuals thoughts toward sustainability this discussion is.
